Wearing Japanese art
Text Michele Zeni
Issey Miyake launches the third series of the collection with the famous Japanese graphic designer Ikko Takana. The esteem and respect that the designer has for his countryman have pushed Miyake to a celebration of Tanaka’s works, reproducing them faithfully in colors and shapes, creating unique garments in their being.
Selecting three series of Tanaka’s works with expressive force and full of distinctive graphic humor, Miyake decided to create garments with refined fabrics that followed the soft movement of the body in order to exalt in the best way the vision of his compatriot’s works.
Tanaka’s dedication to expanding the knowledge of Japanese design on a world scale in the 1980s and his continuing influence in the design world, even after his death in the early years of the new millennium, have found fertile ground in Miyake’s creativity that, starting from 2016, has decided to commemorate the artist with this project and to carry it forward with passion.
