David di Donatello Awards 2018
Considered as the Academy Awards of Italian cinema – the David di Donatello Awards – were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 21st. The event, organised by the Italian Film Academy and now in its sixty-third edition, after two ceremonies with Sky, has returned under the Rai with Carlo Conti as TV host. While Piera Detassis debuted as president and artistic director.
The guests expressed their closeness to the international debates on violence against women, pinning on their dresses and suits a pin labeled Dissenso Comune. Title of the j’accuse, signed by Italian actresses, producers and directors against sexual harassment in the world of cinema. The award for Best Film went to Ammore e Malavita, Manetti Bros’ musical comedy. Jonas Carpignano won the Best Director Award for the A Ciambra movie. A David goes to Dunkirk as Best Foreign Film and to The Square as Best Film in the European Union. The Special David Awards go to Steven Spielberg and to the couple composed of Stefania Sandrelli and Diane Keaton, two different femininities that Detassis chose to underline the cinema’s commitment to the other working categories.
In terms of style, it could be summarised – in the name of black and of Armani. Steven Spielberg, Ferzan Ozpetek and Valerio Mastandrea in black tuxedos by Giorgio Armani. Among women, the neckline was a common choice: Paola Cortellesi in a long black silk dress, Giorgio Armani. Sonia Bergamasco, in a cady, lamé lace and precious stones dress with tulle sleeves, Giorgio Armani Privé. Giorgia, performer of the evening, wrapped in a shirt of black silk tulle and multicolored crystals, on a long velvet skirt, Giorgio Armani. Chiara Martegiani, a dress with embroidered bodice, thin straps and georgette skirt, Emporio Armani.
