The Spring/Summer 2020 Milan Fashion Week season was held between the 17th-22nd of September. Prada inaugurated the season on a minimal note. A gold leather suit with a three-quarter sleeve was the boldest of the line-up. An indication of the rest to come. Salvatore Ferragamo started out in total white and ended in total black. The common denominator besides the monochrome palette was the clean lines and tailoring — elements also present at Giorgio Armani where double-breasted jackets were alternated with sheer dresses. Minimal, here, becomes a matter of materials. At Fendi, Silvia Venturini Fendi flied solo with a collection that disrupted the otherwise minimalist mood of the Milanese shows. One exception: a suit with paperbag waist-trousers and a cropped jacket. It could be an alternative to the many skirt-suits presented. After a controversial straitjacket was brought to prominence by a model, Gucci brought total-black. It showed that a change in palette can do much for a signature silhouette with the attention being brought back to texture and cut.
